The Right Kind Of Store- The Old Spinning Wheel Shop

On my recent visit to Texas, I was determined to find an out of the ordinary store for some special shopping.  My shopping desires do not run to the local mall or run of the mill souvenir shops.
No my money is meant for the local flavor!  Of course I did have to shop at the PX for some Army shirts for the family, but that's another story entirely. (unexpected meeting with Daryl Worley signing his CD)
I googled and searched and looked in many shopping centers.   I was beginning to think that the Texas shopping scene didn't like the knitting and spinning crowd.   One last ditch stop at a needleworks store,Needlewerkes..  While it was a lovely shop if you like tapestry and cross stitch, there was no yarn to be had.  I hesitated, and then asked the owner if there were any specialty yarn shops in the area.  She had heard of one opening about 7 miles away, in Killeen  and gave me directions.  Eureka!  Off I went with no real idea what she was talking about! I've been in Texas for three days and live in Maryland.  But if yarn was at the end of the road, I was going there.
After driving the described number of miles, and seeing nothing on the horizon but more Texas countryside, I began to consider returning to civilization.  But there on the left side of the road was  a HUGE sign!  OLD SPINNING WHEEL YARN SHOP.  Happy Day!  I parked and walked up to the door of the shop.  The shop is in an older ranch style house that is being remodeled into classrooms and meeting rooms with the retail area in the front of the store.  I was greeted by the owner and intermediately felt right at home.  I loved the feel of the place and of course, the fantastic selection of  natural fiber yarns and fibers.   I was introduced to some of the local knitters who where sharing some knitting time.By the time I left the shop,Dawn and I had exchanged  email addresses and a lot of store owner ideas and tips. Dawn has the right idea going for the local knitting and yarn shop.  Warm and inviting with iced tea and yarn.  In the company of knitters, one always feels welcome and at home.
