Quick and Easy Candle Lantern

So you say you aren't crafty?  But you love the look that crafts bring to your home.  Read on and I will share with you a simple way to make an inexpensive canning jar lantern.  The materials are readily available and inexpensive.  I used a gallon size jar but you could adjust this to a smaller size jar, too.

Step 1.  Grab a large canning type jar.  I used a gallon size but you can adjust this plan to half gallon or even a wide mouth quart.
Step 2 - place a pillar candle into the jar.  See easy so far!

Step 3 - Okay now, deep breath.  We are moving into crafty territory.  Take about 2 cups of a seasonal blend potpourri.  Add  it to the jar, pouring it around the candle.  Adjust it using a long handle spoon if needed.

Stay with me now.  We are almost done, but you need to trim the top of the jar with ribbon or twine or raffia.  Because it is crafty to do this and it adds the finishing touch!

Step 4  -  Using a few strands of Raffia, a piece of ribbon or twine or mix them to make a pleasing combination.  It's ok to try different combinations until you are happy.  But if that is too much craftiness, just grab a pretty piece of ribbon and tie it around the top of the jar.  No one will judge you, trust me.

Extra Credit-  add a cinnamon stick into the bow or maybe a small ornament. or cookie cutter.  Play around with it.  You may even find that you enjoyed your attempt at crafting.

Light your candle, pour a cup of coffee and sneak a cookie break.  You worked hard and your home looks warmer and homier.

Enjoy!

Cautionary statement.  As with all flammable materials and candles, use safety at all times.  Do not leave a candle unattended while burning.  Make sure all decorations do not  hang over the top of the jar where they may catch on fire.  Keep children away from burning candles.
