Duplex Nesting Box

I've been thinking back on the fall flea market season. . I really enjoy the hunt for the perfect treasure for just the right bargain price.  Dragging home the new find and preparing a new spot for it is lots of fun for me.  I spotted this beat up old wooden crate last fall and fell in love with it.  I love the old paper ads on the sides and the one on the inside.  It had to be mine.  I knew it would make a perfect nesting box for my chickens.

This was the preferred egg laying area.  It wasn't a box, just the top of the small chicken coop inside the chicken palace.  We use it in the spring for the baby chicks.  The top has a sloping roof and the eggs laid up there would often fall off the roof and land broken on the coop floor.

After getting it in place and loading it with hay, I stepped back to see how the girls would like it.

Hmmm.  What do we have here?

The girls quickly assembled to check out the new home furnishing. Discussions occurred, decisions were made about who would go first.

At the end of the day, the proof of their approval was in the box.
Three eggs in the new nest

Excuse me!  This room is taken,  Use the room next door!
