I love to read. Understatement. If it was an olympic sport, I would be a qualifier. It is the most relaxing activity for me. With the out of control heat and humidity this summer, I have found myself reading even more than usual. After all, reading requires little movement. Quite a few of the books on my reading list have been read in the last few weeks. First, I was on an Emily Giffin kick. Giffin writes about 30something women and the angst and turmoil in their lives. Laced with humor and tears, the stories are hard to put down. Even though I must admit to not being a 30something any longer, I still remember the days of career, marriage and family building. So far I've read, Something Borrowed, Something Blue, and Baby Proof. Recommend them all.
Next, I forced myself to take a break from the chick books and read something totally different. So I chose Glen Beck's, The Overton Window. Being somewhat of a political junkie, this book hit all the right nerves. I loved the classic undertones of evil vs. good. It was so well written, something that I often find lacking in a TV personality's writing style. Also, since I do have specific conservative beliefs, I found the story to be very believeable. I actually cried during one part. Good job, Glen.
The current read is The Help by Kathyrn Stockett. I have to say that this is an example of why to not judge a book by its cover. The cover led me to think the book was some sort of self help type book. I don't know why. Maybe the two birds on the cover. Who knows. It actually is a story of pre-civil rights movement in Mississippi. So far I am enjoying it.
If it is too hot in your kitchen, grab a tall glass of sweet iced tea and a good book, relax and enjoy. Why can't grownups have summer vacation too?
