Inspiration Fabric

Once upon a time, long ago, I purchased a skirt with beautiful embroidery on it.  It did not matter to me that the skirt was way too long for me, and probably wouldn't be a flattering style, either. The beautiful stitching captivated me and the sale price made it all the more enticing!    I never found out if the skirt was flattering or not.  When I attempted to try it on, I realized that the zipper was broken.  The zipper would not open.  I was not discouraged.  I would fix the zipper.  Someday.   So, for years, I admired the skirt as it hung in the closet.  Each time I gathered unwanted clothing to pass on to charity, the skirt stayed.  I just could not part with it.  The embroidery spoke to me, and it remained in my closet.  Years passed.  Last fall I was reading a magazine about re-purposing  belongings into usable  objects.  Suddenly, I knew what I could do with the skirt.  I would use the fabric and make things out of  the beautiful embroidered fabric.

The first project I chose for the fabric was a throw pillow.  I had a small pillow form, so it also used another item that was already in the house.
After carefully measuring and fitting the fabric around the pillow, I cut the first large part from the skirt.  (in the process, discovering that the skirt was fully lined.  Never noticed that)  I sewed up two sides, the third side being a fold in the fabric, and inserted the pillow.  I  stitched the 4th side closed and looked at my creation.
I like the pillow even more than I liked the skirt.  Maybe because it is now being used.  Maybe because I was inspired and took a few minutes to create something useful.  Who knows.  I have a beautiful pillow and enough leftover fabric to make some more items!  I think that makes it a good day.
