Why I Write

A few people have asked my why I started a blog. Afterall, I am just a regular 50(ouch) year old mom with a quickly emptying nest and a bunch of hats that I wear every day. The answer in a nutshell is that there are so many thoughts in my aging head that it just seem right to put them out there. I have never been one to shy away from technology. When the first blogs were created, I admit, I thought they were stupid. Why publish your diary on line. Those were personal things. But, the blog has emerged as a great tool for people to share their ideas with LOTS of other people!

But, before this turns into a blog about the history of blogs, back to why I write. I love how words share our thoughts and ideas. Humans are unique in this gift. Animals may be smart, sometimes we swear that our dogs are thinking. But really they are working from a survival instinct and memories. Some recall more than others and appear to be "thinking". But, only humans have ideas. Some are good, some bad, but we have this ability coupled with the language needed to share our ideas.

Sometimes, our instinct is to not share and be silent. This can also be a gift that some people use more than others. Writers often say that it is easier for them to write the thoughts and ideas than to talk about them. Words are our tools. They enable us to share with the world what we feel and enable all to share in those ideas. We can choose our "tools" and hopefully we choose wisely.

Use your words.
